Inspiration Board No. 100: Anne of Green Gables

26 March 2013

Here it is – inspiration board no. 100! Inspired by the beginning of spring and one of my very favorite children’s novels, I decided to imagine an Anne of Green Gables wedding. I did take some modern liberties — no puffed sleeves here, I’m sure much to Anne’s dismay — but I did include several hallmarks of the beloved books.

Did you spot them? I included a redhead with upswept hair (since Anne so looked forward to putting hers up!); a bouquet overflowing with spring flowers, like one Anne might have collected from Violet Vale; and a spot that could be a modern-day White Way of Delight. There’s also a beribboned bridge gesturing toward the one where Anne and Gilbert have their moment at the end of book one; a red cocktail in honor of raspberry cordial/currant wine; books as centerpieces; a berry cake that looks like one Anne might have made Diana; and a boat for setting sail on the Lake of Shining Waters.

Do you love the Anne series, too? I’ve never seen the movie(s), but I hear some people love them as much as the books!

I pretty much want to dive into that Strawberry cake head first.

This is the sweetest inspiration board! Gosh, I haven’t read the Anne of Green Gables books in years. May need to pull them out for the beach this summer!

I love Anne of Green Gables! I have seen the movies on PBS, and I have to say, I like them. I don’t know if they are as “good” as the books, but I still find them fun to watch.

Can I ask you what program you use to make your collages? I’m new to the blogging world, and a little overwhelmed by all the things you can do!

Have a great day!

I love, love, love Anne of Green Gables and any wedding inspiration that comes from them. And I have to say, the first movie is one of the few movies based on a book that I actually like. I don’t find myself constantly saying “that’s not what happens in the book” while watching it :)

currant wine & the fated boat with the rose garland! What a lovely homeage to Anne! One thing was missing…the every sought-after “elbow dimples” (which I never understood as a little girl!) I too am an Anne-lover!

I LOVE this. I loved Anne of Green Gables growing up and I always wanted to marry a man who looked like Gilbert Blythe. This is a beautiful inspiration board!

Anne of Green Gables – my all time favorite book AND movie!!!! I have SO many childhood memories surrounding this story! Definitely plan on watching the movies; the trilogy starring Megan Follows is the best one.

@Lisa I hadn’t read them in years, either, but I pulled the first one out last fall, and then ended up reading all three in about as many weeks! Still so good :)

I clearly need to read these books again, because I haven’t the faintest what your references mean!

Fabulous storyboard. These are my favorite books. I even played Anne (with an E) in the Musical version during summer camp at 10, dyed my hair red, and had the biggest crush on the counselor that played Gilbert.

If you haven’t yet watched the series you must immediately. But be warned you will need tissues when Matthew dies. The series is very true to the books and well worth a weekend movie marathon.

How wonderful! I especially love that beautiful but doomed little row boat. Not long ago I bought the entire set (all 8!) of Anne books because I thought any future daughters I have must read them!
